Untitled design (9)Making his return to the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Italy for his second summer season as Music Director, Fabio Luisi helms a world premiere production of Verdi predecessor Saverio Mercadante’s newly rediscovered opera Francesca da Rimini, commissioned by the King of Spain in 1831 but never performed. Staged by Pier Luigi Pizzi, the production will be, in Fabio’s words, “one of the most exciting and interesting projects of recent years, an opera by a major Italian composer of the romantic age, which has never been performed! Stay tuned and come to Martina Franca for this amazing discovery!” Find more information about Francesca da Rimini here, which opens on July 30 with additional performances on August 2 and 4.

During the festival, Fabio also conducts two semi-staged performances of Mozart’s Così fan tutti on July 21 and August 1, directed by Juliette Deschamps. Find more information here.
