fl2012may175_fThis September, Fabio Luisi comes to New York for the premieres of his latest piece, the Saint Bonaventure Mass. The Mass, Luisi’s first large-scale composition, honors the 800th anniversary of the birth of Saint Bonaventure of Bagnoregio.

The world premiere takes place on September 17 at St. Bonaventure University in western New York, where Luisi is to be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at an academic convocation ceremony “in recognition of his extraordinary gift of composing a Mass celebrating St. Bonaventure’s 800th birthday.”

Two days later, Luisi’s mass comes to the Met Cloisters for the New York City premiere. Catherine Matejka conducts the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus & Chamber Ensemble for both occasions.
