Now in his fifth season as General Music Director of Zurich Opera, Fabio Luisi returns to the house to lead a revival of Don Carlo. Rolf Glittenberg’s staging of Verdi’s five-act fable of political intrigue stars René Pape and Ramón Vargas and opens November 27 with repeat performances on December 1, 4, 7, and 10.
In concert this season, Fabio leads the Philharmonia Zurich in a lavish collaborative co-production of Verdi’s Requiem, joined by the Zurich Opera Chorus and the Zurich Ballet and Junior Ballet, with world-premiere choreography by Christian Spuck. Ten performances of the Requiem take place between December 3 and January 13. In the midst of these concerts, Fabio also conducts the orchestra alone on December 18 in a program of Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished” and Martin’s Love and Death of Cornet Christopher Rilke with alto soloist Okka von der Damerau.
